<abstract_fa>
</abstract_fa>
	<abstract>
Background and Aims: Considering the importance of the dimensions and morphology of the sella turcica in predicting skeletal malocclusions and the conflicting results of previous studies, the aim of this study was to evaluate the dimensions and morphology of the sella turcica in patients with different skeletal relationships in the sagittal plane.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in 2025 using 180 lateral cephalometric radiographs retrieved from the archives of the Babol Dental Faculty and a private orthodontic clinic in Babol, Iran. Samples were selected through convenience sampling, with 60 radiographs in each skeletal class (I, II, and III) and an approximately equal gender distribution. Skeletal classification was determined based on Steiner analysis and the ANB angle, and the Wits appraisal was used to further assess the jaw discrepancies. Manual tracing was performed on acetate paper under the supervision of an orthodontist. The length, depth, and anteroposterior diameter of the sella turcica were measured according to the methods of Silverman and Kisling. The morphology of the sella turcica was classified into six types Including normal, oblique anterior wall, double contour of the sella turcica floor, irregularity of the posterior part of the dorsum sella, bridging sella turcica and pyramidal shape of the dorsum sella based on Axelsson’s classification. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26, and statistical analyses included one-way ANOVA, Tukey post hoc test, independent t-test, and chi-square test, with a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The mean age of patricipants was 37.21 ± 5.61 years (range: 15-45 years(. 53.% of the samples were female and 46.7% were male. The mean length, depth, and anteroposterior diameter of the sella turcica were 7.95 ± 4.18 mm, 8.33 ± 1.51 mm, and 12.02 ± 2.75 mm, respectively. Normal morphology was the most frequent pattern across all skeletal classes. No statistically significant association was found between the sella turcica morphology and skeletal classes in the sagittal plane (p=0.154), and not between the sella turcica morphology and gender within skeletal classes (Class I: p=0.195; Class II: p=0.146; Class III: p=0.755).
Conclusion: The findings showed that the morphology of sellaturcica was not significantly related with the sagittal skeletal classes and it seems that the growth of sellaturcica was independent of anterior - posterior changes of jaws. In addition, the lack of difference between the men and women, emphasized the stability and reliability of this structure in the cephalometric analysis.
</abstract>
